Buckle Up! New Jersey Student Drivers Now Have New Requirements
New Guidelines For New Drivers In New Jersey
It was one of the most exciting times of high school and one of the most nerve-racking as well. I'm talking about getting our driver's license and going through everything we had to do to get the privilege of getting behind the wheel here in busy New Jersey.
First, it was getting the book knowledge down for driving which most of us found boring. Then the excitement started as we got to go into the driving simulators! This was like a giant video game that got us a little experience of what it might be like on the roads. Then came the actual driving class with our gym teacher riding around the parking lot at school and driving, well sort of lol.

Finally, we did get on the roadways, which at first was nerve-racking, and then the most stressful day, the dreaded driver's test!
In a recent Patch article, they outlined new changes coming to student drivers around the Garden State. "Student drivers in the Garden State must now log a minimum of 50 hours of supervised practice before they get their license, under a new law that went into effect Sunday."
The article added, "This new law applies to any student driver under the age of 21 who was issued a special learner's permit or examination permit on or after February 1st.
Also according to the new provisions "Ten of the required hours must be completed at night, and a parent, guardian, or supervising driver must sign a form certifying that the student completed the minimum number of hours."
