A Look At Toms River's Iconic Annual Halloween Parade

The Toms River Halloween Parade, held annually in Downtown Toms River, is one of the largest Halloween parades in the world and a beloved local tradition that dates back to the early 20th century. It began in 1919, organized by American Hose Company No. 2, a local volunteer fire company, as a small community event meant to bring neighbors together for a fun, family-friendly Halloween celebration. Over the years, the Toms River Halloween Parade grew in size and reputation; in fact, at one point recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the second-largest Halloween parade in the world, behind only the one in New York City.

The event traditionally takes place tonight, following a route through downtown Toms River. It’s become a point of pride for Ocean County residents, combining small-town spirit with large-scale pageantry. The parade continues to be run by volunteers from Toms River Volunteer Fire Company Number One, keeping its community roots alive more than a century after it began.
