Patriotism and Pride in Toms River, New Jersey

It was a day to say "Thank You" to those who have served our nation and helped defend it against those who threaten to remove our freedoms and way of life here in the United States of America.

Despite a wind chill in the teens on Tuesday, residents turned out in terrific numbers for the annual Toms River Veterans Day Parade in Ocean County, New Jersey, and I was proud to be on hand to see the men, women, and children honor our Veterans.

Folks lined Main Street and Washington Street to watch as Veterans, Active Military, and Members of the Community made their way through the parade route. Area Toms River school bands rang out with patriotic songs, and the crowd cheered as Veterans of all ages made their way through Downtown Toms River.

History of Veterans Day

Veterans Day in the United States originated as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I on November 11, 1918, when hostilities ceased between the Allied nations and Germany. The first observance in 1919 honored those who served in that war. In 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, Congress renamed it Veterans Day to recognize all American veterans living or deceased who served in the nation’s armed forces. Today, it’s celebrated every November 11 to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of U.S. military veterans across all generations.

Once again, just want to echo those two words we like to use on Veterans Day, "THANK YOU"
