Atlantic City Police Officer Joshua Munyon, who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman, will make an appearance in court Wednesday for a detention hearing.

Prosecutors say Munyon, 24, sexually assaulted a woman he detained in his patrol car last September.

The Case Against Atlantic City Cop

Munyon served the unnamed victim a summons for being intoxicated at the Tropicana Casino on Friday, September 13th.

Then, it's alleged that Munyon brought the woman to his patrol car in a nearby parking lot and sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle.

The woman suffered injuries to her wrists from being handcuffed during the assault and a chipped toenail.

Munyon brought the woman back to the Tropicana, where she reported the assault to security.

There is surveillance video showing the woman getting in and out of the patrol car, and GPS data showed the route that Munyon took while driving her.

Prosecutors say that Munyon gave statements denying that he had the woman in his patrol car or had placed her under arrest.

Joshua Munyon's Police Career

Joshua Munyon is from Egg Harbor Township and has been an Atlantic City police officer since 2022.

He was placed on a desk assignment when these allegations were first made in September.

Munyon was suspended without pay from his $ 52,000-a-year job while this case is pending.

He is being held in the Cape May County Jail, according to the Press of Atlantic City. Wednesday's hearing will determine if he stays there or is released pending his trial.
