The New Jersey Division of Taxation has announced they'll send notices to over a million residents informing them of their eligibility for the state's ANCHOR property tax relief program.

What makes this program different, is that you don't have to own a home to participate in this program.

The state has implemented changes to the program that is meant to streamline the process.  Here's what you need to know.

How to Claim Your ANCHOR Money

Last year, the program covered the 2020 tax year and the state distributed over 2.1 billion dollars to nearly 2 million homeowners and renters in the state.

Payments ranged from $450 to $1500.  Seniors over the age of 65 received an additional $250.

If you've received ANCHOR benefits in the past, the state will file your application automatically.

Confirmation Letters On the Way

Confirmation letters will start to be sent out on August 19th.

If any of the information in your confirmation letter has changed, you will be required to file a new application by the September 15 deadline.

If you haven't received benefits previously, you can apply online as well.

Additionally, you can apply in person at one of their Regional Service Centers. 

The state has implemented new security standards to prevent fraud.

For those who are,

  • New applicants;
  • Anyone searching for their ANCHOR ID/PIN at anchor.nj.gov;
  • Anyone who did not receive an ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letter or Application Mailer;
  • Anyone who no longer has their ANCHOR letter/mailer or the information provided on it.

You will need to create or use an existing ID.me account.

You will also be able to visit one of their Regional Centers and show a driver's license, passport, or other government ID.
