A Mays Landing man, who was arrested in 2018 as part of a law enforcement undercover sting in Ocean County looking for men trying to lure minors for sex, has now been sentenced for his criminal transgressions.

Richard Hoffman, 27, is one of the men whose online activity was flagged and tracked by the New Jersey Department of Criminal Justice, New Jersey Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office which has led to his plea of guilty for Luring and sentencing of five-years in New Jersey State Prison, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

The Mays Landing man has also been ordered by the judge to register as a Megan's Law Sex Offender and he'll be under Parole Supervision for Life as well.

Hoffman, who thought he was conversing with a 14-year old girl but who was actually an undercover Camden County Prosecutor's Office Detective, was arrested on September 5, 2018 as part of "Operation Open House", an undercover probe that arrested 24 individuals over a near 48-hour period in Toms River.

Much like the 23 others arrested, Hoffman arranged to meet the "girl" at a place in Toms River but when he and all the others got there, they were met with handcuffs instead.

The men were using 'Whisper' and 'Kik' to try and lure underage females and males for sexual activity.

Hoffman was brought to the Ocean County Jail following his arrest and was then released because of New Jersey's Bail Reform Law/Guidelines.

Prosecutor Billhimer also announced that Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman handled the case on behalf of the State.
