Our story begins at Allaire State Park in Wall Township, Monmouth County. This story was brought to my attention by a local resident who enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs that an artist constructed at the park out of tree branches, limbs, etc. It was an all-natural project that was constructed simply for park visitors to enjoy while taking a hike. It was a great way for art to meet nature to meet history, considering the subject was dinosaurs.

As you can see the artist, who I do not know, put a lot of time and effort into the project and it was simply for folks to enjoy, but recently many of the dinosaurs were destroyed and found broken into piles. This has saddened many visitors who would go to see these intriguing forest statues. So now the mystery begins.

Some visitors are saying vandalism, while some are questioning recent bad weather. I was told by one visitor that it appeared the ropes used to fasten the sculptures appeared cut, which would rule out Mother Nature. So as you can see it is a mystery and it's just plain sad that something so artful and innocent is now destroyed. For the record, not all dinosaurs were destroyed.

Regardless of the reason, it's sad these statues are gone, and let's hope they can be replaced and let's hope visitors in the future will keep an eye on them and make sure nothing happens to them again. It's a gift someone wants to share this project with visitors and it's a crime to see that good-hearted effort lost if it were due to vandalism.

Why do people vandalize? why do some need to destroy the positive efforts of others? can people ever be civil? all questions I see people asking these days on a daily basis. Let's hope to bring this kind of "incident" to light will help more from happening in the future. Let's respect each other and stop acts of vandalism in the future.

I also hope that the artist will rebuild the dinosaurs that were destroyed so others can visit and enjoy them. It's a great way to get outdoors, exercise, and be entertained. This is very much like the Fairy Trail I wrote about this week.
