Its another season of American Idol, and there's lots of new stuff, namely Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, but some things were the same, namely two judges who just can't seem to get along.

I didn't have very high expectations for the show. The new roster of judges didn't really impress me, and I thought this might be the beginning of the end for the mighty Idol, which I have been a fan of since the first season. But now I think I might have been wrong.

Don't get me wrong,  I can do without "Mariah vs. Minaj". Those feisty battles that try to get some story lines going seem fake to me and they're not necessary. Having said that, I thought they both had something to say, which is more than a lot of judges on these type of shows offer.

As a matter of fact, I think they both have a shot at being really good judges, and that's a pleasant surprise to me. Keith Urban looks like the "nice guy". Every panel needs one and he's perfect for the part. Even Randy Jackson, in the anchor chair, did a nice job keeping it moving along.

So, all things considered, the new judges were actually a breath of fresh air, and as an Idol fan, I'm breathing a sigh of relief, at least for now. But we all know it's a long season!
