Power Outage

I've said many times before that I hate politics...and that in most cases, I can't stand politicians. Our leaders have really been put to the test in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and while some failed, others should be commended.

A Florida man working in our area to restore power after Hurricane Sandy was beaten up while attempting to take a dinner break with a coworker.

Lengthy power outages, property damage, lack of information...it all seems never-ending and it's starting to get to all of us.

Nancy said it best on the show this morning. Her dream man is a guy in a hard hat and a utility belt. It hasn't always been that way, but Nancy hasn't had power in 11 days.

The Nor'easter now known as Winter Storm Athena is over our area dropping rain/snow mixes and freezing out many people that haven't had power (or heat) in a week.

As I write this, JCP&L reports that over 600,000 of their customers are still without power. I have seen crews working on the monumental task day and night since the storm subsided.

There is nothing convenient about not having power for a week, but here are some good things that come out of our time in the dark.

As if we don't have enough to deal with.

Even if you were fortunate enough to not suffer major damage from Sandy, odds are you have no power, and all you can do is wait. And odds are you have headed to the gas station to fill your car or generator, and all you can do is wait there as well.

The Jersey Shore is famous for being home to good strong people. Patience however, has never been one of our strong point, but hey, that's who we are. But since Sandy, we all have to reach down deep and muster as much patience as we can.

I was yelled at today for doing my job. Trust me, we are ALL frustrated, but patience has never been more crucial than right now.

The Parkway may be open but the fact is that traveling remains unsafe and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
