It's hard to believe that old Foodtown lot at the intersection of Chambersbridge and Brick Boulevard has been vacant for 12 years! Brick Township actually bought the land in 2003 to stop a home improvement store from taking the lot.

I guess over time we've all just become accustomed to the emptiness. But, maybe not for long.

Developers are proposing the construction of a "Superdome," restaurant and retail spaces according to the APP. They actually want to call it Superdome, too.

The spotlight of this project would be a huge domed indoor sports complex. When I say huge, I mean over 68,000 square feet huge. The application obtained by APP calls for indoor basketball courts, an indoor soccer field, an outdoor beach volleyball court, and jogging path.

Mayor Ducey is all for it, saying:

My entire reason for becoming mayor is to make lives better for families here in Brick, and this is a huge part of it. [The sports complex] is something for people of all ages to do. They will have programs for little children in strollers, all the way up to senior citizen programs, and everything in between.

If the construction is approved, we could see a groundbreaking as soon as 2019.
