Abused Wall Dog Shows A Fighting Spirit In Recovery

Doctors at the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital say the abused dog brought to them by a couple that turned out to be its owners is making a slow recovery.

The Cocker Spaniel, now named Samuari (or Sammy for short), is showing a “fighting spirit” in his recovery and is being fed via  “very small amounts of syringe feeding by mouth” according to a post on the hospital’s Facebook page.

Dr. Lisa Weeth, the hospital’s board certified nutritionist, has done a consult in an effort to reintroduce food to Sammy’s diet. If he is fed too quickly he can become very ill.

The hospital, which is nursing Sammy back to health at no charge, is also working with a dermatologist to begin treatments to his skin.

A fund has been established to help care for Sammy according to the Jersey Shore Hurricane News Facebook page. Donations may be sent to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, 197 Hance Avenue, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724. Be sure to note that your donation is for the Morgan/Samurai Fund.

Morgan was the initial name given to the dog when he was brought to the hospital by Keith Morgan and his wife Shauna on Thursday, claiming they had watched a car put a bag with Sammy inside along Belmar Boulevard in Brick.

What Should The Punishment Be?

Further investigation by Victor “Buddy” Amato, chief humane law enforcement officer for MSPCA, revealed the dog, which was covered in waste, was actually owned by the Morgans, leading to their arrest on charges of animal cruelty and filing a false report.
