What the heck is "festooning" anyway? It's basically all of the trademark decorations and artifacts that are on the front and side of Johnny's. It's what makes Johnny Mac's, well, Johnny Mac's! However, owner John McGillion is dead set on not letting this happen.

The Asbury Park Planning Board had good news and bad news. They approved the expansion of Johnny Mac's from 208 Main Street to the 212 Main Street location of Mary Mac’s. This is the good news.

The bad news is that with the expansion they required that "none of Johnny Mac’s trademark ‘festooning’ can be seen from the street."

Speaking to The Asbury Park Sun:

We are not signing, we are not signing,” McGillion said of the resolution that will presented in a few weeks’ time. “The audacity that this has been here for five years and now they are turning around and saying take it down.

McGillion has a point. It's not like the exterior of Johnny's is a new thing. I think their look embodies what Asbury Park is all about. It is downright stupid for them to be forced to take the "festooning" down.

McGillion is not taking the signage down and will go to court if he has to.

Mr. McGillion, I applaud you for fighting to keep one of Asbury's destinations just the way it is and the way we all like it.
