‘Big Man’ Clemons May Get His Day In NJ

It’s not the day ‘the Big Man’ joined the band, but Clarence Clemons may get his own special day in New Jersey.

Monmouth County Sen. Jennifer Beck has proposed designating Jan. 11 as Clarence Clemons Day, to honor Bruce Springsteen’s legendary saxophone player.

Clarence Clemons, who was born Jan. 11, died last year at age 69.

The resolution honoring Clemons will be taken up by a Senate committee on Thursday.

Clarence Clemons was an original member of Springsteen’s Jersey-based E Street Band. He was immortalized in the song “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” with the lyric “the change was made uptown and the Big Man joined the band.”

Gov. Chris Christie, who has been to 130-plus Springsteen concerts, would sign annual proclamations on behalf of Clemons if the tribute is approved.
