Are You Ready For Snow? [POLL]
Winter is halfway over and we haven't seen much in the way of snow here at the Shore. Today's forecast is calling for maybe some wet snow in areas, but that's not REAL snow. Do you feel cheated by this winter?

So far so good. I know Saturday was a little shaky, but here we are nearing the end of January and..so far so good. Do you remember last year? Of course you do. We got buried under a pile of snow right after Christmas and didn't see the front lawn again until March.
We've been lucky this winter (knock on wood) with the lack of snow thus far. This weekend though, brought enough slow and sloppy mess to make trouble on the roads...especially for the lazy folks who don't clean off their cars!
I spent the last week in paradise. It was a week of sunshine and temperatures near 80 degrees, palm trees and sea turtles, pina coladas and mai tais. I was convinced that I would immediately move to the US Virgin Islands when I got back from vacation. My friends think I'm crazy...they all said they like having four seasons in a year.
I walked across the Point parking lot this morning. It was 12 degrees with a wind chill of -8. There is literally no way to describe that feeling, is there? I think it's even worse for me because I'm a summer person. All the Jersey Shore brochures show warm beaches, boardwalks and sausage and pepper sandwiches. You never see a picture of a person struggling through a windswept parking lot, with a winter coat, scarf and a cold tear streaming down her face.
We’ve seen extreme weather patterns in New Jersey over the past couple of years and it doesn’t look like there’s a change on the horizon. In fact, State Climatologist David Robinson believes the energized climate pattern could result in a new normal.
Wipers on, lights on. Pedal on the right. Two basic things to remember when driving in the rain. So why do so many people find it so difficult?

My wife Diane and I took some breaks from our Christmas decorating this past weekend because we didn't want to miss the spring weather. I had to stop pulling holiday decorations from the attic at one point because it was too hot up there. Now we start the week with two days in the 60's. I've been in New Jersey too long to think this is good sign for the upcoming winter weather. You know what I mean, right? So I checked the Farmers' Almanac.
I hate winter. The cold, the snow, the darkness...it's the worst. If I could live anywhere in the world...it would probably be San Diego. Why? It's pretty much 75 and sunny all year round. Sounds pretty perfect to me! But after getting a taste of that today, I wonder if I might actually ENJOY winter. Can it be??
Rainy, gloomy, dark weather makes people sleepy, lazy, and for some, depressed. There's even a clinical term for it -- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD -- how's that for convenient acronym??). Despite that, it might be time to shine a light on all the positive things that come from darkened skies.
