Erosion Not an Issue with Recent Storms

New Jersey has been rocked left and right by nasty weather events in recent weeks, but the coastline escaped nearly unharmed.

The primary concern during the heavy rain episodes was inland flooding due to overflowing rivers and streams.

Officials and residents along the shore have become extra sensitive to storm warnings and iffy weather, given the billions of dollars in damage caused by Superstorm Sandy last October.

“Everyone is a little bit on edge because of what happened,” said Michael Oppegaard, Director of the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management.

Oppegaard said counties were notified by weather officials that if any tidal flooding were to occur, it would be minor.

“Coastal communities are very thankful that there’s not a lot of wave action,” he added.
