On tonight’s (May 16) episode of the penultimate week of Season 11 of ‘American Idol,’ the final 3 — Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez — sang a trio of songs for three rounds of competition. One was chosen by the judges, one by the contestants themselves and one by series mentor and Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine. It was a whole lot of singing with a lot on the line, as the final two competitors will be determined in 24 hours. Hello, nail biting situation!

Here’s PopCrush’s recap on how the ep shook down.

JOSHUA LEDET:

Everything he did tonight was good and Gospel-flavored. He leaves it all on the stage, with his natural ability to sing and to perform. He adds touches, like ripping off his jacket and his inner ear monitors. He’s a total package. We’d be shocked if he goes home. Seriously.

Judge’s Choice: He slayed Etta James’ ‘I’d Rather Go Blind,’ nailing every single sweet spot. Out of 70,000 contestants, there is only one ‘Idol’ and he sang like he was the one. Hard to beat, for sure.

Personal Choice: He showed us he can do subdued with his soulful rendition of The Beatles‘ ‘Imagine.’

Jimmy Iovine’s Choice: Mary J. Blige‘s ‘No More Drama’ is the perfect marriage of R&B and church, and since J. Lo is like the male Mary J., the song played to all his strengths. He sang with a Gospel fire and came alive on the stage, ripping off that jacket.

JESSICA SANCHEZ:

She is going to have a long career in music since she has such a money voice. Her youth, though, make us think now is not the right time for her. That said, she continues to rack up flawless performances that are predictable. When she gets a little more life lived in her, that “edge” we desire will manifest itself. Overall, though, Bebe Chez can sing her patoot off and we predict massive things for her.

Judge’s Choice: The belter and last female standing offered up a beautifully refined rendition of Mariah Carey‘s ‘My All.’ She showed restraint and a quiet tenderness. We can’t deny it was pretty, even though it lacked any sort of edge.

Personal Choice: She went the ballad route with Aerosmith‘s ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.’ She hit all the notes but it wasn’t anything particularly moving. She struggles to “connect,” despite performing in flawless fashion.

Jimmy Iovine’s Choice: The Jackson 5′s ‘I’ll Be There’ was her Iovine selection and she once again delivered a quality rendition and showed off a soulful tone. It lacked that “WOW! OMG!” moment.

PHILLIP PHILLIPS:

The girls love him, and he is artistic, yet does his own thing without catering to anyone else. He also goes off the melody of his songs and twists them to create something unique. But tonight, for his final performance, he stuck to the melody and had the moment. If he’s not in the finals, it’ll be criminal.

Judge’s Choice: He owned the melody of Madcon’s ‘Beggin’,’ a song you likely never heard. While the DMB comparisons haunt the double P, he is a true artist and the way he handled the mid-section of the song had us buying what he was selling. Steven Tyler said once he writes his own songs, he’ll be a new age Boss, as in Bruce Springsteen. HUGE compliment.

Personal Choice: He sang Matchbox 20′s ‘Disease,’ giving it a bit of a funky, jazzy feel. Only Phillip Phillips can turn radio rock into something totally fresh and new. However, the judges hated it.

Jimmy Iovine’s Choice: The song has a great melody and an emotional and romantic timbre, but the masculine quality was the reason that Iovine chose Bob Seger‘s ‘We’ve Got Tonight.’ It played to PP’s male and female fanbase. We can sum it up in one simple word: SWOOOOOOOOON! Dressed in black and singing while seated, Phillips showed us a tender, leading man side. His voice changed shape and he ventured into new territory. The ending where he harmonized with the choir? We got goosies, J. Lo.

Tune in tomorrow night (May 17) at 8PM on FOX to find who the Top 2 will be. PopCrush has been struggling with our prediction, but we’re going to thinking the final will feature Joshua Ledet vs. Phillip Phillips.

Look at them.

They’re loud and obnoxious. They set themselves up way too close to you on the beach. They’re blasting terrible house music and drinking cheap liquor from plastic cups. They’re cursing up a storm within earshot of your kids and the stench of their sun tan oil, hair gel and body spray is overwhelming.

To your relief, they finally decide to go for a swim. They barely hit the water when suddenly…

CRUNCH! AHH! SHARK ATTACK! EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER!

What sounds like sweet retribution for Shore natives who have been hassled by these Pauly D wannabes during the summer will be a new movie on the Syfy Channel this summer.

The film, set to premiere on June 9, is centered a group of Jersey Shore tourists of the reality show stereotype who are terrorized by finned predators. The made-for-TV flick features cameos by real-life Jersey Shore regular Vinny Guadagnino, ‘Nsync’s Joey Fatone, Tony Sirico from The Sopranos and Paul Sorvino from Goodfellas.

We got a situation here, bro.

Are you always tired? Is it hard to get through the day without feeling exhausted both mentally and physically? Join the team. So many people struggle with low energy and often rely on coffee or energy drinks just to keep moving. We have partnered with NJ Nutrishop to discover the most effective ways to boost your energy. There are a lot of quick fixes out there that claim to increase energy, but if you’re looking for natural, fail-proof solutions to feeling sluggish, check out this list of the Top 5 healthy ways to boost your energy!

1. Exercise

Contrary to popular belief, exerting more energy when your body feels tired is a great way to actually increase your energy. Going for a daily walk around the block or heading to a local park to run, bike, or hike is a perfect solution to gain momentum for your day and escalate your energy to complete other tasks. For this reason, many people start their day off with exercise before going to work or doing anything else.

Flickr user Trainet

2. Take Daily Vitamins and/or Supplements

There are several solutions to help increase energy that can easily be found at your local vitamin store. Vitamin B-12, especially when used within multivitamins like Nature’s Fuel, is an excellent source of energy. Although B vitamins are found in food, the body often lacks enough of these and therefore taking supplements can help. Other great energy-boosting (and fat burning) supplements include Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen, CLA (try Thermovex for great results), and for athletes, the supplement NO XP3 is great for increasing energy while also building strength and endurance.

Flickr user SOCIALisBETTER

3. Eat Healthy, Whole Foods

The formula to fighting feeling fatigued when it comes to your diet is simple. Drink more water and less soda, alcohol, and sugar-filled juices. Eat more whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and less junk food, fried food, and less amounts of red meat. When snacking choose nuts, veggies, fruits and grains over chips, cookies or candy bars. Not as simple as it sounds for your schedule? Try the supplement Nature’s Fruits and Greens, packed with 6-9 servings of fruits and vegetables that work together to boost energy fast!

Flickr user karimian

4. Take “Power” Naps

The feeling of exhaustion usually means that your body and/or brain is literally fatigued and in need of rest. It’s important not to ignore this by getting the rest needed to keep you fueled for the day. For most people, the appropriate amount of sleep each night is vital to daily performance. For those who constantly push their brains and bodies to the limit, regular napping (for about 60 minutes) can increase energy and alertness.

Flickr user bengarrison

5. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Get a head start on your day by not only eating breakfast, but by supplying your body with the nutrients and grains that it takes to set a positively fueled tone for the entire day. Without food, your body and brain feel exhausted and sluggish. With foods loaded in sugars, your body experiences a short-lived burst of energy but then sets into a lethargic rest, often putting you in a bad mood for the day as well as not regulating your daily appetite properly. Remember, your body has had nothing for about 8 hours, hence the need to “break” the “fast”, so be sure to practice healthy eating first thing in the morning! Choose a variety of foods from the five food groups and you’ll be energized to seize the day!

Flickr user Charlie Gross Photography

Of course, caffeine is also a source of energy that many people commonly use to get them going for the day. However, maintaining a healthy diet, taking vitamins and/or supplements along with regular exercise and plenty of sleep has been shown to increase energy. So if you’re running on empty, get up, grab a healthy snack and get energized!

Facebook

Well, it passed. The ordinance restricting the sale of alcohol at bars and restaurants after midnight in Point Pleasant Beach goes into effect July 1.

What about the second ordinance that would allow bars to pay to stay open until 2 a.m.?

Well, that has been pushed back. The Point Pleasant Patch reports that the second ordinance is still on the table, but the deadline for bars to request a later closing time from the town has been postponed from May 24 to June 25.

That postponement will require the Borough Council to vote on the original ordinance and the date change and a meeting in June.

I don’t live in Point Pleasant, I don’t party all that often in Point, but I do go there occasionally, and I think this whole ordinance is ridiculous.

I was talking to Lou about it, and getting his take on it, and can understand how for the Point Beach homeowners, even one rowdy bargoer is too many.

What about personal responsibility though? I go out to bars pretty much every week. I act like a reasonably responsible person — not screaming in the streets, peeing on people’s lawns, and fighting like a moron. I don’t care how drunk you are, handle yourself.

Here’s an idea…don’t act like an idiot, and this won’t be a problem.

A lot of ‘locals’ say it’s the BENNYs that cause all the trouble. Maybe we should restrict the clubs to locals only then? Must have an NJ state ID to enter? You get one drunk and disorderly conduct ticket and you’re banned forever?

There just has to be a better way than punishing everyone for a few bad apples.

Anyone who’s ever been to Jenks Club knows they do as much as they can to control the crowd. They have plenty of bouncers and cops around the check IDs, there are ALWAYS 5-10 cops standing outside the club when you leave onto the boardwalk, there are signs everywhere telling people to be respectful of their neighbors. Jenks and Martell’s are doing everything they are supposed to.

Point Beach wants to be a family-friendly town. Totally understandable. I just hope this new ordinance doesn’t drive up the prices of all those family-friendly attractions from the businesses who are now losing revenue from the bars…and drive away Point Beach’s economy.

What do you think of this? Will this attract you (and your family) to Point Pleasant Beach, or take you and your money elsewhere? Add your comments below!!

When you’re in the Eastern Conference Finals, a bus ride across the river is a welcome change from the extra travel that normally comes with a seven game playoff series. What isn’t welcome, necessarily, is the fact that the rival fans have easy access to both venues. For the New Jersey Devils who have always struggled to fill the seats, this means droves of Rangers fans buying up tickets to the games at the Prudential Center. This year, the Devils have attempted to combat all the Ranger Blue in the seats at The Rock.

Bruce Benett/Getty Images

For the Conference Finals, the Devils and their fans are attempting to make the Rangers fans persona non grata in their home arena as they are imploring all Devils fans to not sell tickets to Ranger fans.

The Devils launched a “No Blue” campaign, which they have since taken down from their website. The campaign requested that you reach out to the organization or other fans before selling your seats. Here is an abstract from the campaign:

If you own seats and have to sell for any of the home games because of conflicts, do NOT list your seats on the secondary market. Blogs such as Fire and Ice, In Lou We Trust, and HFBoards provide you with outlets to speak directly with other Devils fans who are looking for seats. This will ensure you are selling ONLY to other Devils fans. You can ask for pictures or meet them to deliver tickets, to ensure where their loyalty lies.

Here is the promotion that the Devils had on their website :

Yahoo Sports

The Devils unfortunately offer the perfect combination unfortunately to attract Rangers fans. It is a quick trip over the river to Newark and the ticket s are cheaper and more accessible than at Madison Square Garden. How cana passionate Rangers fan NOT take advantage of this?

Although it may be a tad expensive and time consuming, maybe the Devils can do a DNA test and fingerprint every fan at the gate? Better open those gates at the Prudential Center a little earlier if that’s the way the team decides to go.

Obviously these are tongue-in-cheek-ideas but maybe if they had more passionate fans, they wouldn’t need to campaign would they? Do they really think these tactics will stop the Rangers fan base from invading the Rock for Games 3 & 4 of the Conference Finals?

What do you think of the Devils’ tactics? Take our poll

I can understand both sides of the Point Pleasant Beach argument. Those who live near or around Point Pleasant Beach are concerned about their quality of life, and rightfully so. But as a fan of local businesses, I certainly don’t want to see businesses hurt.

So this is a tough one. The ordinance passed last night (which goes into effect July 1st) certainly protects the quality of life issue, but does it do so at too high a price for some local businesses? There was another proposal that would have given establishments an opportunity to pay $60 per person of maximum capacity so they could continue to serve until 2am with those fees being used to add additional police presence. That seems to make the most sense to me because it protects the quality of life plus gives the businesses a chance to make a business decision, but that proposal stalled and has been shelved until the next council meeting.

No one should have to deal with people urinating or doing lewd things on their property. I heard one story of a homeowner finding a couple… how do I say this nicely….let’s just say they were taking the “No Standing” sign a little too literally. Obviously that behavior has to stop, but is this ordinance the solution? Does it help or hurt tourism?

A Brooklyn man has spent $60,000 in lawyer fees to try and get custody of his dog Knuckles (not pictured) , who is in California with the man’s ex-girlfriend.

I also know of a man who has an old, large dog that doesn’t meet the requirements of the apartment complexes or homeowner’s associations where he’s tried to rent. Now he’s got to decide whether to give up his best friend in order to find a place to live.

Some say these decisions are easy. That you do whatever it takes to keep your beloved pet who is a member of your family, no matter the price you have to pay, be it where you live or how it affects your finances.

Others say there are some times in your life where you simply can’t put your pet first. I have heard many tragic stories of families not being able to afford to take their pet to a hospital when it is sick, or moms who give birth to a baby who is allergic, and they have to give up the cat they have adored for so many years.

There are also those animal activists who are fighting to get apartments complexes and homeowners associations to allow residents to have pets…no matter the size…without being punished by having to put down large deposits or pay higher rents.

In fact, the Monmouth County SPCA has evidence that pet owners more often make better, more responsible, long-term tenants.

So…how far would you go for your pet? Scroll down to comment.

When you’re getting drinks at the Boardwalk in Point Pleasant, you’ll have to call it quits by midnight according to an ordinance passed by the Borough Council.

Point Pleasant Beach Council meeting (Ilya Hemlin, Townsquare Media NJ)

In a tight 4-3 vote Tuesday night, that was ultimately decided by a tie breaking vote from Mayor Vincent Barrella, bars and restaurants will be required to stop serving alcohol at midnight starting July 1st.

The vote came after a contentious council meeting where residents from the affected 4 district spoke out passionately against many business owners and employees who see this as a devastating blow to their business.

Mayor Barrella says the segment of the population that comes to Point Pleasant to drink excessively gets unfairly lumped into the rest of the Borough’s tourism offerings. He believes the ordinance will help curb some of the behavior that is causing the problems.

“If you say, don’t line up six jello shots you’re somehow hurting tourism and games of chance and the people who are going to come to the beach.”

Though proponents of keeping the 2am limit for drinking say it brings revenue for municipality, Barrella notes the municipal parking makes only 3,000 dollars between 12 am to 6am, while 12,00 is made from 11 am to 6pm.

The issue of restricting the hours that patrons can be served came after complaints last year of drunken rowdy behavior increased, and the issue of dedicating more police force to the area was presented.

Point Pleasant Council members met with representatives from businesses along the Boardwalk to try and reach a resolution that would prevent a restriction from needing to be passed. An offer from the Boardwalk was made which would give the Borough 160 thousand dollars every year for five years (800 thousand total), however members of the board felt that not only was the money not enough but didn’t provide any kind of solution to the problem nor address the issue past the five year mark.

Additionally Barrella feels a lump sum of cash given by the Boardwalk doesn’t do anything to alleviate what he feels is the problem of drunken and disorderly behavior, and furthermore absolves boardwalk bars and restaurants from doing anything.

“If you just take the money, the argument is going to be without structural changes, the argument is going to be ‘well you took the money, it’s your problem’, and it’s not our problem. It’s our problem because they’re not treating it as their problem.”

The ordinance preventing the sale of alcohol past midnight (2012-15) was accompanied by another ordinance which would have allowed the very same bars and restaurants to have an optional fee to allow them to operate until 2 am (2012-16).

The second ordinance would have charged businesses 60 dollars per person of max capacity that would give them permission to serve alcohol to the 2 am time like before. The money from the sale of these would be then used to fund special police officers who would be responsible for patrolling the area addressing quality of life issues.

That piece of legislation stalled however, postponed until the next council meeting over issues of the ordinances legality.

There was concern from the Department of Consumer Affairs acting director Richard Constable that charging business owners 60 dollars a head goes beyond what can be charged for a liquor license.

The ordinance was brought to the attention of Governor Chris Christie during a town hall and he was asked to bring it to the DCA. Mayor Barrella says he personally brought the issue to the agency.

Though Barrella contends the ordinance is legal, in a letter first published on Point Pleasant Patch, Constable states “The borough appears to be undertaking an unlawful effort to institute a fee that it has no power to institute.”

Believes the state is interfering with a municipality matter.

“The state is meddled here, the state made a conscious decision to do something unprecedented which is get involved.”

Recently Point Pleasant instituted a ban on parking within the Fourth District by the boardwalk from 12 am to 6 am. That law would also take effect in July, however it is under litigation from several Boardwalk bars.

Barrella says that regardless of what happens with ordinance 2012-16, the Ordinance 2012-15 is currently law, and is autonomous with or without the other legislation.

And no matter what you tell us, we don’t believe that Howie Mandell actually flew in on some form of a jet pack. That’s just careful editing at work there.

We begin the festivities with the Sacramento dance group called CMYB, headed by David Garblandi. Now here’s the kicker: they’re not just a dance group, but a painting dance group. Yes, they manage to combine their love of dance with their incredible painting skills. To think that he’s able to paint Mozart while actually dancing to it along with his group is just amazing. Color the judges impressed. (Sorry)

Then the audience isn’t introduced so much as exposed to Mr. Special. His name should sum it up. He comes in a little tricycle playing “Anchors Away” on a trumpet while wearing half of a chicken outfit. He gets an automatic fail from Sharon and Howard, but pushover Howie gives him a chance for a split second until he decides to vote against him. Mr. Special doesn’t take the news well as he almost calls Sharon a b—-, then tells her to give him a call. Mr. Special even manages to slightly harass Howie and Howard back stage. Rude much?

It’s time for a horrible audition montage! We’re exposed to the worst of the bunch which includes lame fire performers, a band who plays solely on guitars made out of suitcases and Mars Green, a man who’s painted like a lizard and sings an awful rendition of Katy Perry’s “Supernatural.” That poor, poor audience.

Obviously the saddest one in the group was Kim McAffe, a singer who’s duet became a solo thanks to her flaky singing partner. She may have given Howard Stern praise for his show, but that doesn’t stop him from giving her an automatic no for her performance. Suddenly Nick Cannon pops up, trying to help her out by “scratching,” which makes her performance a bit worse.

Let’s bring on the balancing act! We’re referring to Cristin Sandu, a seventeen-year-old who balances on several metal circles. It terrifies the audience to a degree, afraid that Cristin will be splattered all over the AGT floor, but he manages to pull off his act without a hitch and wins most of the judges over.

Then we’re sprinkled with a bit of humor as the auditions continue on with LCD – The Lisa Clark Dancers. This has to be one of the funniest dances that’s been seen on the show so far, mixing contemporary dance with classical music. Everyone’s won over except for Howie, which nobody gets, not even us. For some reason Howie is happy when he sees the magician and the concert piano player who pull off a cool sawing act that ends with half of the piano player performing one of his tunes. And then he gives a yes to a juggler who screws up the first time he performs his act. What’s going on in that noggin, Howie?

We get our first dose of impressions on the show thanks to Dave, a comedian impressionist. He manages to imitate the voice and movements of a few celebrities including Nicolas Cage and Vince Vaughn but doesn’t entirely hit the mark the whole time. All of the judges basically tell him to get a little “edgier” with writing his impression skit, but still think he’s good enough to move forward in the competition.

We slip into the more emotionally touching portion of the show when we’re introduced to Luiz Meneghin, a normal man with a solid opera voice. His performance is fine but at the same time you can tell he picked a safe song to sing instead of really pushing his vocal cords to the limit. Either way, he managed to wow everyone in the audience. Here’s hoping he really challenges himself when he’s in Las Vegas.

Day two of the San Francisco auditions kicks off with Paula Nelson, an eighty-year-old woman who’s known as Granny G. What makes Granny G so unique? Why she’s a grandmother who can rap about moral values. The judges suggest that Granny G could be even cooler if she blings up her walker. She’ll certainly be doing that when she’s in the next round. At least she’s loads better than Kotton Kandy, a heavy-set male street performer who wears a glowing showgirl outfit. Hey, he may not be what everyone wants to see but at least he gave it the good old academic try while dancing to the “Tootise Roll.”

Crappy audition montage part two! This round includes motorcycle stunt men who can barely do any tricks, a lady with a performing mini-horse and puppy that just walks around in circles. And though you would have figured the man who transformed his broom and dust pan into musical instruments wouldn’t move forward, you’re wrong.

It’s sympathetic time once more with Tim Hockenberry, an alcoholic who turned his life around and is now ready to sing in front of the nation. He performs a great rendition of “You Are So Beautiful” which almost moves Howie to tears. Everyone is absolutely in love with him, especially Howard who describes his performance as “a breath of fresh air.”

The last dance group we’re presented with is the FBC (Funk Beyond Control). They’re all right, but the one thing that almost killed their routine is that one of the kids immediately messed up. Thankfully, Howard Stern and company were in more of a forgiving mood at this point in the show.

Speaking of decent performances, the judges managed to let an indie folk hipster-like band, called The Emily Ann Band, move forward. They sang a really strange rendition of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” that left half of the audience wondering what they just listened to. Oh well, they advanced to the next round along with so-so stand up comedian Kellen and a martial arts dance group that messed up at one point.

Thankfully the last performer of the night deserved to not only be on this stage but definitely deserves to make it all the way to the finals. Alonso Jones, aka Turf, is a hip hop contortionist dancer who was kicked out of his house for wanting to pursue his dreams. He was homeless for two years and danced for money on the street until he could afford his own apartment. The contortion may at times be uncomfortable to watch but man, he’s got some moves. Even Nick Cannon is speechless, his jaw hanging ajar while watching Turf at work. Once he’s done performing, Turf is moved to tears over the judges’ wonderfully kind words. “Just this right here… dream came true.” Yes, this man is going to Las Vegas.

That’s it for San Francisco’s portion of the auditions. Next week we’ll be watching the trio make their rounds in New York City, Howard Stern’s home turf, on ‘America’s Got Talent,’ airing this next Monday and Tuesday at 8 PM.

With so many amazing contenders in the ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ semifinals, it was really anyone’s guess who’d leave after Tuesday night’s elimination show.

So which three couples will move on to next week’s big finale?

Hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet, who was nice enough to introduce first-time viewers to her cleavage, kicked off the show by letting the judges choose an encore dance from performance night.

Len announced the honors would go to William and Cheryl’s samba, so the bronzed pair again took to the stage to showcase William’s bouncy backside to a grateful nation.

Then we got a backstage look at what exactly happened to Katherine after she flubbed the end of her second routine on Monday. Apparently a twinge in her back chose to make itself known at an inopportune time, and she was devastated — although it seemed she was more concerned about possibly costing Mark a spot in the finals than she was about herself.

Brooke’s cleavage called Katherine and Mark to the stage to learn their fate, and after they were told they were the first to make it to the finals, they jumped so high it honestly looked like they’d both been launched from ejector seats. Much rejoicing ensued, and we have to say we’re pleased we’ll get to see them next week.

Next up: Derek and Maria, who had a helluva night on Monday. But even though they were at the top of the judges’ leaderboard, they must have fallen short on audience votes because they were the first couple in jeopardy.

Then we got a peek at the upcoming ‘Rock of Ages‘ movie, only live on stage, featuring ‘DWTS’ vet Julianne Hough and the always-amazing Mary J. Blige. It was … well, see for yourself:

Donald and Peta were the next to be told they were in jeopardy, which course meant William and Cheryl moved on to the finals.

And in what many people will probably feel was a really shocking result, Maria and Derek were eliminated, even after getting one perfect score and one near-perfect score on Monday. Yeah, those audience votes do matter. (Is this a good time to say we predicted they’d come in fourth?)

But if Maria was surprised, she sure didn’t let it show. “I learned so many things,” she said about her time on the show. “I learned how strong I was. I learned to persevere.” Classy lady — and as we said, it really could’ve been anyone who went home.

See you next week, when we’ll finally find out who wins the coveted mirror ball trophy.
