Animals have excellent hearing, The sound of fireworks, even from several miles away, can terrify your pet .If you have a dog that gets scared during fireworks, you know that even if you are home, it's hard to comfort him.

If you're going out and leaving your dog home alone (which is still better than bringing your dog with you to see fireworks), it can be quite traumatic if he's alone while fireworks are going off, so make sure he is in a safe place within your house.

Experts say leave a radio or TV on for noise that can possibly cover up some of the fireworks noise. Some dog owners keep their animals in the bathroom with the shower running to help block the sounds.

Others say they have trained their dogs to look forward to special treats during fireworks so that they associate the fireworks with something positive, like a bone filled with peanut butter -- something that will take them a while to eat.

Some pet owners have tried a special vest or collar.

Some dogs shake so badly during fireworks that their owners have consulted with their veterinarian to have a pill on hand to relax their dog during fireworks.
