Free Cabs for Young People who Don’t Have a Safe Ride Home
D-Squared wants to save lives of young people in our area who might otherwise choose to get in a car as a driver or passenger when it is unsafe to do so but there are no alternatives.
D Squared provides free cab rides from Asbury to Point Pleasant to those 27 and under who find themselves stranded or without a SAFE means of transportation home. And, within the next month, they will be expanding the area of service to include Brick and north to Long Branch.
The mission of D Squared is simple: to save lives. Too often, we read of senseless tragedies involving vehicles and young people. These accidents are all the more profound in the small towns that comprise the southern Monmouth/northern Ocean region where public transportation is difficult, at best.
By offering a cost-free, direct-to-home taxi service to those young people who may have few, if any, alternative ways to get home, D Squared aims to prevent such accidents in the future.
D Squared is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that was formed in March of 2014, almost a year after Stephan and Karen Dushnick lost their two sons, Stephan and Michael, in a vehicular accident.
After this tragedy, the Dushnick family felt compelled to create a program for their sons' friends, their neighbors' children, and all local youth by extending to them a safe means of transportation home, at no cost.
The hours of operation are 8 pm - 3 am. D Squared iOS and Android apps are available to download on iTunes or Google Play. There is also a phone number available to call: 732-223-HOME (4663). Either will send a ride request to D Squared's dispatch board. The caller must provide the driver with a form of ID. D Squared will only provide rides home.
