I started noticing the black and red spots when I woke up in the morning.

There was a ladybug crawling on the screen of my window. I didn't think much of it at first.

Then, I started seeing them all over the house throughout the day.

After venturing outside, there were even more on my house, on my car, and eventually in my car.

The ladybugs had company, too.

Did you notice that there were also a ton of bees flying around on Saturday?

It wasn't a big deal and I didn't mind it at all, but it did make me curious.

Why were there so many ladybugs in New Jersey at the end of October?

According to Southern Living, there are two reasons we say so many ladybugs on Saturday. One reason is actually common during early Autumn, and the other is uncommon.

What else was uncommon about Saturday? How about a record high of 82 in many parts of New Jersey?

Not only that, but it was also sunny.

The reason we have the most ladybug sightings in the spring and summer is that these insects are attracted to warm and sunny areas.

You might have heard someone joke about the bugs being confused this weekend. That's not completely wrong.

The other reason ladybugs were swarming New Jersey is something that actually happens annually.

Fall is also the time of year when ladybugs get ready to seek shelter from the cold for the winter.

If you had a bunch of them crawling around your house Saturday, it's because lucky you, your house is the perfect shelter. Interestingly enough, ladybugs will send a pheromone out to alert other ladybugs nearby that there is a safe structure.

If you had a dozen or so indoors, there's no need for concern. Especially if you found them around doorways and window screens.

If you are seeing a lot of them all in one place, there may be an infestation and you should seek the expertise of an exterminator.
