Listen to the whole interview:

When Mike, Melissa and their two young boys boarded the Anthem of the Seas, they could not have imagined how this trip would turn so horrifying.

A Middletown man that survived a hurricane at sea aboard a cruise ship came on our morning show this morning to talk about it.

Mike and Melissa brought their two sons, Matthew and Mason, on what was to be a wonderful family vacation aboard the Anthem of the Seas along with many other extended family members who were joining them on the trip.

As they were eating lunch aboard the ship the day of the storm, they felt the ship start to shake and were told to go immediately to their rooms and stay there.

Mike says that's when the chaos and panic began as people made their way to lock themselves in their rooms. He says it was hour upon hour of objects flying across the room, the ship dipping and listing and, at one point, coming close to flipping.

Mike says they are thankful that they didn't have a room with a window because it would have been scarier for the family to see what was happening outside in that storm.

He and his wife had to make due with the very few drinks that were available in their room  fridge as they tried to care for their 1-year old, and their very-scared 4-year old boys.

It's a parent's worst nightmare...well, actually it's EVERYONE's worst  nightmare when you find yourself hoping you will survive such a horrifying event.

Mike, Melissa, their family, and all of the others on that ship could not leave their rooms, nor get anything to eat, from 3 pm the day they were told to evacuate the dining room, until 9 am the next morning. Mike says the worst of that storm lasted hour after hour from about 4 pm until midnight.

That's 8 hours of sheer fear.

Mike says he is just grateful that his family came off of that ship alive and well. When we asked him if he would ever get back on a cruise ship he said...YES, he would.

What's the scariest thing that has ever happened to you?
