A group of local high schoolers make up one of six teams from across the country to compete in an upcoming applied math contest for the chance at a $20,000 scholarship!

The team from High Technology High School in Lincroftwill head to NYC on Monday, April 28th for Moody's Mega Math Challenge.

From Left to Right: Dr Raymond Eng, Austin Liu, Zachary Liu, Cynthia Guo, Ruby Guo, and Patrick LeBlanc. (High Technology High School)

The team consists of Cynthia Guo, Ruby Guo, Patrick LeBlanc, Austin Liu, and Zachary Liu. The teens were challenged to use math to create formulas for healthy and affordable cafeteria lunches.

Led by HTHS math teacher Dr. Ray Eng, the team beat out more than 5,000 students nationwide to make it to the finals. They'll compete against 5 other teams, coming from Indiana, North Carolina, and Delaware.

Depending on how they place, the HTHS teammates could receive scholarships ranging from $2500 to $20,000. (There's no better math than subtracting from student loans!)

The event starts at 9 a.m. on the 28th, and you can watch it live online by clicking HERE.
