This Is When Your New Jersey Christmas Decorations Need To Be Down

We are at the time of the year when all thoughts turn to taking down your Christmas tree and decorations. Is there a proper day to have it done?

Of course, here in New Jersey, there is no shortage of opinions on this or any other topic for that matter. So, what are people saying?

Many people are saying that after spending so much time putting it all up, and the fact that we don't want to lose that holiday feeling, let's leave them up for a couple more weeks.

But that is not what the experts say. At least not the experts at Good Housekeeping. They say it has to be a lot sooner than that.

If you follow some very long-standing traditions, you'd want to have the decorations down by January 5th or 6th, often called The Twelfth Night.

This is generally considered a religious rule, and as a matter of fact, some people say it's bad luck to keep the decorations up too long after Christmas.

I have a theory that I think will make everyone happy. It keeps the holiday warmth as long as possible, while also respecting the concept of not leaving up the Christmas stuff up too long.

What I do is I remove Santa and the reindeer from any decorations, and I take all the decorations off the tree, but I don't take the tree down.

The tree stays up with just the lights and I hang on to the nice Christmas feeling without having to see anything, well, Christmas-y. I thought that was a pretty good compromise.
