NJ.com is doing a search for the "best beach" and the author had virtually nothing good to say about Pt. Pleasant Beach and Jenkinsons. Here's why I think he's wrong.

Overall beach quality:

If you're visiting Point Pleasant just for its beach — we're talking a day solely devoted to laying out or jumping in the ocean — you've made a big mistake.

Why does author Bobby Olivier say this? Pebbles. He thinks there are too many pebbles in the sand. I've honestly never made a beach decision based upon sand quality. If litter and trash were all over the place, that's a different story. I've always found the beach to be pretty clean.

Olivier also said:

boogie boarding or wading more than a few yards out virtually impossible.

Simply not true. Just take a look on any decent beach day.

Size and type of crowd:

NJ.com's author says that Point Pleasant Beach is overrated. But then writes this:

In the summer months, Point Pleasant is completely overrun with day-trippers and beach home-renting vacationers. The beach itself near Martell's Tiki Bar or the Jenkinson's theme park area is PACKED, even on weekdays. Get there very early if you want a decent spot near the surf. Or venture slightly north along the boardwalk, past the aquarium, and plop down near the Manasquan Inlet — you'll likely have more space.

Wait. Point Pleasant Beach isn't new. If it's always been as bad as NJ.com is making it out to be, locals would have figured it out by now. There are many locals that LOVE Pt. Beach! Everyone is different. Some Jersey Shore residents enjoy the excitement a summer season brings, others opt for the quieter beaches. The out-of-towners can get annoying at times, but if it weren't for them, Point Pleasant Beach wouldn't be as awesome as it is.

The type of crowd here skews younger; 20-something partiers, teens splashing with friends, mixed in with some families. Again, you'll have to trudge a while before you reach a spot to truly relax.

While there are definitely places to "truly relax" in PPB, not everyone is looking for that experience. Some visit to party, go clubbing and live it up. There's nothing wrong with that!

Personally, I've grown up visiting Point Pleasant regularly, and still love the place. Just not in July.

Mr. Olivier, your search should be renamed "New Jersey's MOST BORING Beaches." Fun is not a bad thing. Additionally, for someone who says they grew up in Point Pleasant, way to represent! Beaches being crowded in July is not new.
