On Saturday, the city sent out alerts stating that there had been a system-wide outage with the parking meters. As a result, drivers who were unable to pay were given free parking throughout the day, the Asbury Park Press reported. In addition, police were not issuing parking tickets to car owners who didn't pay the fees.

A few months ago, Asbury Park changed it's parking meter system. Fees are now charges based on the date and time of day, with drivers paying more to park during warmer months, as well as higher fees in the evenings when they find spots closer to the city's popular night spots.

Police told NJ 101.5 Sunday that the glitch appears to have been fixed and drivers planning to visit Asbury Park will be required to pay fees at the stationary parking meters located throughout the city.
