Everyone in Jersey has a place they call "their" diner, and if yours is the Red Oak in Hazlet, you might want to get that last plate of disco fries while you can...

The iconic Rt. 35 eatery is set to close this Sunday, January 22nd, and while the plan is to move to a new location, at this point, the search for that location is still on.

The Two River Times reports German discount grocery store Lidl submitted an application last summer to build a 36,000 square foot building on the property where the diner has stood for decades.

For now, area diner fans will have to head to Broad Street in Keyport, Kings Arms II in Belford, New Monmouth in Middletown, or hike down to the Americana in Shrewsbury. (Edit: Thanks to Skip who reminded me about the Yellow Rose on Rt. 36 in Keyport, and Ruthann who adds the Park Place Diner on Rt. 34 in Matawan.)

Bummer!
