Storms Bring Lightning, Flooding To Shore
Yesterday's late afternoon storms resulted in six homes being hit by lightning in Toms River.
No major injuries or damages occurred but police responded to incidents ranging from set off alarms to gas lines being hit. Onyx Drive took the most damge with 3 seperate reports of problems including a struck gas line.
Lightning also downed a pole in Holiday City causing a outage for three hours.
The lightning also knocked out power at the Ocean County Sheriffs Department 911 facility forcing all calls both emergency and non emergency to be handled by Burlington and Monmouth County Communications as well as Toms River and other municipalities. Their power was restored by midnight.
Heavy rains caused flooding on the Garden State Parkway through Toms River between exits 82 (Route 37) and 83 (Route 9) late in the afternoon.
More heavy rain will likely move through the Shore on Monday morning.
