Summer at the shore is far from over my friends. As Lou Russo said, this is actually the beginning of our summer.

Some of the best community events, festivals and happenings at the Jersey Shore take place after Labor Day. All the better in my opinion, with the majority of the crowds gone and a little more breathing room for us locals.

Even though some of these events occur after the "official" end of summer which is September 21st, they're worth mentioning. Besides, we'll decide when summer is over!

Here are some upcoming things to do at the Shore that are a can't miss.

THE BOARDWALK BED RACE

SEPTEMBER 7th

SEASIDE HEIGHTS - FRANKLIN AVENUE STAGE - 6PM

It's a Seaside tradition that's strange, but very fun. Two oversized beds with wheels (and people in them) barrel down the boardwalk in a race that has become a must-see for many.

FEAST OF SAN GENNARO

SEPTEMBER 8th-9th

MAIN STREET BETWEEN 10th AND 11th IN BELMAR

loading...

The original San Gennaro Festival started in Little Italy in 1926 by newly arrived immigrants from Naples to honor St. Gennaro, the patron saint of their home town.

-Dr. Dan DiCesare, owner of Nicchio Ristorante and the organizer the event.

They celebrated Italian food, wine and culture as a way of giving back to the community. We’re planning to do the same thing here in Belmar.

The festival will feature plenty of Italian foods, wines, games and activities, starting with the traditional procession of the statue of San Gennaro, benefiting the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.  Look for dancing, live entertainment and exciting special guests. Many of Belmar’s popular dining spots will take advantage of the festival to extend their seating outdoors.

The festival will take place between 10th and 12th Avenues on Belmar’s Main Street from 11 am until 10 pm on Saturday, September 8th and from noon until 6 pm on Sunday, September 9th.
