It's a sad day for cheese and chocolate fans.

Popular fondue restaurant The Melting Pot announced today that the Red Bank location in The Galleria has closed after 12 years in business. No reason was given for the closure.

It was always a popular place for special occasions and date nights, or anytime you wanted to do something a little different for dinner or dessert.

It's especially sad for me as I worked in that Melting Pot as a bartender for a little while about six years ago! I met a lot of very cool people there, and actually learned a lot about wine and craft cocktails, and of course, how to make fondue!

The chain also has restaurants in Atlantic City and Somerville, though today's announcement noted the company "hopes to open a new location in the area in the future."

End of an era for sure!
