If you're looking for some great entertainment this weekend without heading to Broadway, come out and see these incredible, original plays from some amazing locally talented playwrights and actors!

What started out as an artistic experiment for South Street Players in 2011 has now flourished into an annual event that keeps getting better! It's the Tri-StateTheatre Festival.

A mash-up of 8 original short comedies and dramas written by local playwrights, it runs October 16th - 18th at Wesley Hall in Spring Lake.

The festival offers a little bit of something for everyone. Where else can a pack of zombies, a couple of retirees in a bed, and a menacing GPS all share the same stage?

This year's plays were handpicked from a pool of over 200 submissions. And this event is also a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to help the theatre group maintain its commitment to producing high-quality, extremely entertaining theatrical experiences for the upcoming season, and beyond.

If you haven't been to this festival before, you'll have to take my word for it --it's a great night out! Not only do you get to see a brand new play come to life, but at the end of the show you have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to the writers, directors, and actors.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and children under 12. For ticket reservations, call 732-820-1413. or click on South Street Players. For more info, email Festival Producer Rob Sullivan: southstreetoneacts@gmail.com.

You can also buy tickets at the door. Wesley Hall is located at 4th and Mercer in Spring Lake. I'll be there on Friday night, so if you spot me, come say hi at intermission!
