The annual Toms River Halloween Parade heads through downtown Toms River on Halloween night.

Security has been increased, and you won't be allowed to set your chairs out early.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Registration begins at 8am at the Toms River Fire Company 1 firehouse at 26 Robbins St. (between Water Street and Washington Street) and continues until 5pm.

Parking will not be permitted at the Toms River Shopping Center during the parade, because it is the staging area for parade participants. Drop-offs for those participating in the parade are permitted, but organizers suggest carpooling. The best bet for parking spots are at the Ocean County Parking Garage on Madison Avenue and the parking lot at the corner of Irons Street and West Water Street. Parade organizers say those who choose to park on side streets off Main Street must be a minimum of 1,000 feet from the corner of the parade.

Route 166 (Main Street) will be closed to traffic from Water Street north to Route 37 beginning at 5:45pm. Motorists will be forced to use alternate routes until the parade is over, about 10pm. Washington Street also will be closed from Main Street to Hooper Avenue during this time. Parade organizers recommend arriving about 2 hours prior to the start of the parade.

The parade leaves from the Toms River Shopping Center, at Main Street and Route 37, proceeds south on Main Street, then east on Washington Street and concludes at Hooper Avenue. Trophies will be distributed at 101 Hooper Avenue, Ocean County Administration Building.

Portable restrooms will be throughout the Toms River Shopping Center, on the side of the Toms River BID (218 Main St.) and at the end of the parade.
