It was a tough Monday for two Monmouth County mainstays as they announced they would be shutting down. One closing has a silver lining though.

The Friday's on Route 9 in Freehold Twp. is now a shell as it gets ready to become a Tommy's Tavern + Tap. If the APP reports are true, the new Tommy's will be pretty sweet with a planned outdoor dining area, garden section, and dry bar.

If you need to get your Friday's fix, there are still locations in Eatontown, Hazlet, Brick and Toms River.

The chain restaurants in our area have seen better days. It seems like every week we hear about another one closing.

In the latest round of Sears closures announced today, we learned that the Route 35 Middletown store will be shutting down. This is one of the 142 Sears and Kmart locations that will be closing their doors due to Sears filling Chapter 11.

Online shopping is clearly taking its toll.
