The Monmouth County Courthouse will remain closed the rest of the week.

The facility was closed about 1 p.m. Monday after 65 people became ill, including 25 who had to go to a hospital for treatment.

A statement from the Administrative Office of the Courts this afternoon said the building will remain closed Thursday and Friday.

Officials have spent the last several days running tests to determine what caused the illness and then the plan is to clean the entire building, according to William Heine, director of public information for the county.

The first floor of the west wing was cleaned over the past weekend after 17 courthouse employees reported the same symptoms on Friday as the ones that were reported on  Monday--shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, rash and dizziness.
