Who says you have to go to some exotic island to swim with the dolphins? You can do it right here at the Shore!

Nikolas Pattanyus of Avalon caught his encounter on video. It happened last weekend off the coast of Cape May County.

Nikolas, who has been surfing for 30 years says this isn't the first time he's run into a pod. This time was extra special because the conditions helped him pick up sounds from the dolphins that you wouldn't normally hear if it were later in the day or if there was an abundance of wind.

It's very common to see dolphins in the waters of the Jersey Shore, but it's fairly rare to swim among them. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recommend coming no closer than 150 feet from dolphins, but Nikolas never feeds them or harasses the animals.
