I get very upset when I hear a story like this. Can't we do something about landlords that don't allow dogs? This poor dog is just another victim.

This pet has to be let go by his Monmouth County owner. Read below to see if you can help.

This is one of just many of the reasons that the Monmouth County SPCA and other shelters are overcrowded. When a pet owner has to move and cannot find a place to rent that allows dogs, they have to give them up to the shelter if they can't find anyone to take their pet.

To me, a pet is a family member and I don't see how someone could leave a family member behind. Family should be for life. But I would also like to say that I think there would be less pets in shelters and more in homes if landlords realized the benefits of renting to responsible pet owners. Because pet owners are usually committed, loving, caring. They take good care of their pets and are therefore more responsible in general, and more likely to be steady, trustworthy renters who also take care of the place they are renting.

When you have an older dog like this one, if circumstances don't allow for you to keep it and you have to bring it to a shelter, there is a chance it will be put down. And that makes a bad situation even worse. Some shelters. like the MCSPCA, don't put down healthy dogs, but the older the animal, the less chance it usually has at adoption.

Imagine a dog that has done nothing wrong, has given you unconditional love, and now doesn't understand why his owner has left him. That just breaks my heart.

This particular dog is named Benji. He is very sweet, plays well with other dogs and people. He loves to be pet, walked, and taken for car rides. He will lay down with you on any couch or bed. He has an allergy of some kind so he needs his nose wiped when he gets excited. He is a 13 year old mixed Terrier, and a wonderful and loyal companion. His owner has to move to a place that won't allow her to take him.

If you know anyone who can give this dog a home, email Adrianneadamo@gmail.com.
