Have a $2 bill? It could be worth a lot more than $2.
You could be holding a rare treasure and not even know it.
I'm assuming if you have a $2 bill you keep it in a safe place or maybe it's in your wallet, but you hope to never have to use it because it's so unique.
However, now is a good time to take a look at it. Some are worth a lot of money so it's worth doing a little research to see if you're one of the lucky ones. You could have a hidden gem.
The first $2 bill issued dates back to 1862.
So which ones are worth thousands? There are several $2 bills from many different years so look through and see if any of yours match.
The Courier Post states, "An auction site called U.S. Currency Auctions estimates that uncirculated $2 bills from 1890 could sell for at least $4,500. Uncirculated $2 bills from nearly every year from 1862 to 1899 could have an estimated value of over $1,000, the site says. The price guide offers only estimations and warns that collectors offer rates based on location and printing method."
A $2 bill sold for nearly $6,000 back in January.

"While more recent $2 bills may not have as much value, some could still fetch a high price. A $2 bill from 2003 was sold for $4,000 in August 2022. The particular bill had a low serial number for the 2003 series," according to the article.
