As we broadcast live from the Asbury Park Boardwalk every summer, we’ve seen how creative people can be when preparing their costume designs for the Promenade of Mermaids.  This year, a tidal wave of festivities is planned for the 5th Annual Promenade of Mermaids, which is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, June 29th).  Mermaids and Sea Creatures of every variety will promenade down the Asbury Park Boardwalk and everyone is encouraged to participate in their seafaring attire.  New this year will be over 30 vendors displaying their coastal creations in Bradley Park starting at 10am. You’ll be able to shop for mermaid art, jewelry, clothing, home-decor and crafts.  There will be face-painting, special guests and surprises throughout the day-long event.  Be sure to register for the promenade and costume contest between noon and 2pm.  There will be a $10 fee to participate in the costume contest, but walking in the promenade is free.  The promenade will begin on the boardwalk at 2pm and be sure to wave to 94.3 The Point as you pass our specially decorated studio inspired by the event.  We’ll even have special prizes for outstanding costume creations.  Don’t miss the belly dance performance at 3pm by the lovely ladies of Sharqidance before the prizes are awarded at 3:30pm.  Grand Marshal and Asbury Park Deputy Mayor, Amy Quinn will have the honor in selecting this year’s Promenade King and Queen.  Additional prizes will be awarded in the adult and children’s categories.  Enjoy the after party at APYC/Langosta Lounge at 4pm with the Gypsy Funk Squad.  The Asbury Hotel will be showing the movie classic, Splash, starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah at their Baronet rooftop theatre starting at 7pm.  Be sure to join us this year as we bring under the sea onto the boardwalk in historic Asbury Park.  By the way, the mermaid sand creation was courtesy of Nicole Murray and Scooter from the Point Crew!
