As temps rise, thousands lose power along Jersey Shore
Temperatures were around 90 degrees when a fallen tree in Toms River knocked out the power to over 15,000 JCP&L customers along the Jersey Shore.
Toms River Police said the gusty winds crashed a tree into power lines on Neville Street near Bay Avenue and the ShopRite supermarket.
JCP&L spokesman Ron Morano said the outage knocked out power in Toms River, Ortley Beach and Island Heights. Power was also out in Seaside Park, South Toms River and Beachwood.
Several intersections on Route 37 in Toms River were closed or restricted during the outage but power has since been restored.
As of 2 p.m. just over 1,000 customer remained without power in Toms River according to JCP&L's outage map.
