The Township of Berkeley has submitted an application to the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection, for Green Acres funding to develop the Main Street property in the Holly Park section of the township.

The Main Street property was formally home to the Holly Park Civic Club.

"The Council and I have applied for Green Acres funding to develop this scenic land on Barnegat Bay into a recreation area with a playground, benches and public boat ramp with easy access to Barnegat Bay," Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato said. "The estimated cost of construction $545,000.00. The majority of the construction cost will be to remove the old rotted bulk heading and to install new bulk heading."

The building and the bulk heading was destroyed by Super Storm Sandy.

"We have a boat ramp directly on the Toms River at the end off Mill Creek Road," Amato said. "This would provide the public another way to access Barnegat Bay while developing a nice passive recreation area with a great scenic view."
