New Jersey’s Best Grocery Store Meat Department That Locals Swear By
If you’ve ever stood in front of the meat case wondering where to get the freshest cuts without paying steakhouse prices, you’re not alone. I've always felt that the very best quality and selection comes from your local butcher, but those neighborhood gems are becoming few and far between.
Luckily, in New Jersey, many grocery store meat departments go way beyond the basics. They’re known for their knowledgeable butchers and perfectly trimmed steaks.

Where to Find the Best Grocery Store Meat in New Jersey
ShopRite is a NJ staple, and many locations have built a loyal following for their butchers, who actually still cut meat to order. The stores in Middletown, Wall, and Toms River are often praised. Many don't know some Shoprires even feature local farm partnerships, which gives you that farm-to-table feeling.
Whole Foods also gets plenty of praise for its top-notch quality and attention to detail. I've dealt with butchers who will look at a recipe and help you pick the proper cut. Of course, if you want grass-fed or organic options, Whole Foods is really the only option outside of a smaller, local butcher. The only downside to Whole Foods is the high prices. It isn't easy to purchase all your meats at this grocery store without breaking the bank.

Hidden Gems in New Jersey For The Best Meat Selection
Smaller grocery stores deserve a shout-out, too. Dearborn Market in Holmdel is a family-run favorite with top-notch meats and prepared items that are phenomenal. Their marinated kabobs taste like you did the work yourself.
Corrado’s Market in Clifton and Wayne is another local legend, especially if you’re into Italian sausage, pork chops, and house-made specialties.
The Best of the Best
When you factor in quality, cut, selection, and price, there's only one New Jersey grocery store meat department that rises to the top.
Wegmans has quietly become a favorite for anyone who loves to grill. Their meat department is spotless and always stocked with the best selection of quality cuts. The staff is helpful, and have you ever noticed that the display cases look like something you would see on a cooking show? I don't live near a Wegmans, but every year I make the 40-minute drive to pick up my corned beef for St. Patrick's Day.
