Boys Basketball – Week 7 Seaview Orthopaedics Player of the Week Winner: Luke Braaten, Brick Memorial
Seaview Orthopaedics Week 6 Player of the Week
Luke Braaten, Brick Memorial
Although he is the team’s second-leading scorer, Braaten has been the heart and soul of Brick Memorial this season as its senior leader and dynamic big man at 6-7. His steady interior play on both ends of the floor has helped lead the Mustangs to its first Class A South division championship in 13 years, which the team clinched during the current week with wins over both Central and Souther.
Last week, Braaten earned his way onto the list of Week 7 Player of the Week nominees by dominating in wins over Freehold Boro, Toms River North and Wall. In that trio of games, Braaten averaged 17.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 6.3 blocks, including a triple-double against Toms River North (18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks).
In the other two games, Braaten put up double-doubles, going for 17 points and 16 rebounds against Freehold Boro and 17 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks vs. Wall.
Braaten coasted to the Week 7 Player of the Week with 43 percent of the vote, besting runner-up Trent Sloan of Rumson-Fair Haven (16 percent). As the seventh Player of the Week in 2021-22, Braaten will receive a $25 gift card to the Turning Point and a long-sleeve t-shirt courtesy of Seaview Orthopaedics.
