Many have been wondering if or when they will need a COVID-19 booster shot.

It appears that an official announcement is imminent.

According to the Associated Press, health experts are expected to recommend COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all Americans, regardless of age, eight months after they received their second dose of the shot.

This is to ensure that lasting protection is provided against the coronavirus; especially significant as the highly contagious delta variant spreads across the country.

Federal government health officials have been studying actively look whether booster shots for the already vaccinated would be needed and when?

After reviewing case numbers here in America and other countries such as Israel, the preliminary studies suggest the vaccine’s protection against serious illness dropped.

The eighth month following the final vaccination appears to be agreed upon as the right time to receive a booster shot.

The Associated Press has multiple sources who say that an official announcement may come as early as this week.

Additionally, new booster shots will only begin to be administered widely once the Food and Drug Administration formally approves the vaccines.

To date, only Pfizer has requested full FDA approval for their COVID-19 vaccination.

FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine is expected over the next few weeks.
