A Spring Lake Heights man who suffered injuries in a car accident late last week has passed away.

Now we know what happened courtesy of the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office.

86-year old Malcolm Ryder was the front seat passenger in a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Gladys Strong, 47, of Brick who Monmouth County Prosecutors say collided with a 17-year old driver from Avon by the Sea as the female teen were trying to merge onto Route 18 from Route 33 in Neptune Township.

Ryder was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 3:22 pm.

Strong was admitted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and treated for moderate injuries.

The 17-year-old driver was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and Neptune Township Police Department.
