The reason a food or item is discontinued isn't always due to lack of popularity.

Several factors come into play.

One cause is the same as why certain items are also very hard to find. Production costs.

It's simple math. If the production costs are too high and the product isn't generating enough revenue, it may be discontinued. This is also why many items are in short supply or why costs have gone through the roof.

Ingredient availability is another factor. All it takes is for an important ingredient to become too expensive. If manufacturers can't justify costs, they will just stop production altogether.

Have you ever found a food item that you love that nobody knows about? You say to yourself "How is this not everyone's favorite?"

It may not be the taste at all. It may be the marketing strategy.

It goes back to the old saying, you can have the best product in the world, if nobody knows about it, you're history.

Additionally, changing consumer habits plays a big role as well.

There are even regulatory issues that pop up from time to time.

Items may also be seasonal or available for a limited time.
