Marlboro High School ranked among the nation's top 50 and is 46 on the List. It's followed by Colt Neck High School which ranked at 166, Freehold Township High School which ranked at 467 and Manalapan High School which ranked at 469.

According to the district's press release, "Newsweek teamed up with research partner Westat to develop the methodology for compiling the 2014 list. the first part, threshold analysis, was based on performance indicators such as proficiency rates on state standardized assessments.

"The second part of the ranking analysis used a College Readiness Score based on six indicators: that included Enrollment Rate, Graduation Rate, Weighted AP/IB composite, Weighted SAT/ACT composite, Holding Power, the change in student enrollment between ninth and 1th grades intended to control student attrition and Counselor-to Student Ratio."

However the FRHSD has made Newsweek's America's top high schools in the past. In 2013, Marlboro High was raked 343 and Freehold Township High was 1,162. Colts Neck and Manalapan High Schools are new to the ranking.
