Mobile Wallet Users In New Jersey: Here’s How Scammers Could Be Stealing Your Money
Is Your Mobile Wallet Putting Your Money At Risk
When I run into a convenience store to grab a quick cup of coffee, I always use my mobile wallet or tap my credit card. It's way easier than paying cash, and the transaction is always so quick.
It's something I do every day without even thinking, just a quick tap, and I'm on my way, but now I'm learning that's not a good thing.

I need to slow down and be more aware of my surroundings to protect my credit card information and my identity.

The Better Business Bureau is warning everyone about "ghost-tapping." But what exactly is it, and why should we be paying attention?
Ghost tapping is a scam that targets tap-to-pay cards and mobile wallets.
Here's how criminals are trying to trick people, according to the BBB:
Getting close in public spaces. "Someone might bump into you while secretly charging your tap-enabled card or mobile wallet."
Pretending to be a vendor. "At events, flea markets, or festivals, fraudsters might set up fake stands and ask for tap payments."
Charity scams. "They might request a small donation, but actually charge your card for a much larger amount."
Rushing the process. "Scammers count on you tapping without checking the business name or transaction amount."
If you think you've been a victim, you're urged to report it right away, call your bank, and freeze your account.
