We went to a really good Open Mic night!

A friend of mine hosts an open mic night at Green Planet on Arnold Ave in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday evenings, starting at 7 pm. (They also have one on Wednesday evenings that is similar, but I haven't been to that one.)

I've heard that this has been going on for years at this location, but never had a chance to stop by.

So last evening was a really pleasant surprise. First of all, as the mom of a young musician, I can't usually take my son to a bar to see a good band, singer, or musician, so just being able to take him somewhere to listen to good music is a plus.

Secondly, there's no cover charge, we love the coffee drinks and desserts at Green Planet, the atmosphere is great and the place was full of performing artists and people of all ages, both inside and outside at the sidewalk tables and chairs.

For a town that shuts down early, it's kind of nice to see this kind of energy at night!

We saw some really talented performers, from a little girl of about 4 years old who sang with her parents backing her on vocals and guitar, to some amazing sax players, to bands and individuals performing their original music, it was so entertaining...and, basically, free!

I have heard that many artists who also do paid gigs like at the Stone Pony will stop by and play here...just because of their love for music and the chance to play in public.

We had a nice view from where we sat, enjoyed some coffee and dessert, and really enjoyed each and every artists that we stayed to watch.

Fun times, and highly recommended...especially if you enjoy performers honing their music and you want to support them!
