Halloween is Not Banned in NJ
A news article saying Governor Christie has banned trick-or-treating and canceled Halloween amid Ebola fears is making the rounds.
And it's fake. Very fake.
It was released by The Daily Currant, which, quite like The Onion, is a satirical news site.
The article, released yesterday, states, 'According to local reports, this so-called “Halloween Quarantine” will be in effect Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Children who violate the curfew orders will be arrested and their parents will face finds of up to $1,000.'
What is the point of something like this, you ask? The Daily Currant says their mission is 'to ridicule the timid ignorance which obstructs our progress, and promote intelligence - which presses forward.'
They are doing a pretty good job, because it seems most of the internet didn't realize this was satire...and the post has gone viral.
Yet another reason to do a little Google-searching before sharing things online!
Rest assured, Halloween is on. Trick-or-treat away!
