New Jersey Governor Urges Caution As Rip Currents Threaten The Jersey Shore
With this time of year being hurricane season, there's always the concern, especially at the Jersey Shore, for potential coastal flooding, rip currents, and significant wave heights, and right now we're keeping an eye on Hurricane Erin.
It's not expected to make a direct hit on New Jersey, but we could still feel some of the effects this week.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called in live to the "Lou and Michele" show this morning to discuss the impacts of Hurricane Erin on the Jersey Shore and the potential for dangerous rip currents.

Governor Murphy made it extremely clear that if you're looking to swim this week, there has to be a lifeguard on duty, you need to pay close attention to the green flags that are flying, and always make sure people are keeping a watchful eye on you.
"Don't take a chance, that's the one big message I want to scream out today."
That doesn't mean you can't still have fun at the Jersey Shore, but he said, "don't take a chance."
When I asked him about the timeline that beachgoers need to be aware of, he said, "I would start now, but it builds toward the end of the week. The couple of days where it looks like wave heights are going to be at their peak are Thursday and Friday of this week."
He points out Saturday will probably be "significant as well."
There are so many fun things to do at the Jersey Shore, but the Governor said the bottom line is, "heed the warnings."
