Millville, NJ, Man Dies After Being Hit by Car in Vineland
- A Millville man died after being hit by a car in Vineland Saturday morning
A pedestrian died after being hit by a car in Cumberland County over the weekend.
The Vineland Police Department said just before 6:00 Saturday morning, they were called to the area of East Sherman and South Lincoln Avenues for a report of a hit-and-run accident.
An investigation revealed that a Ford Mustang being driven by 21-year-old Karolina Ortiz-Angel of Bridgeton was traveling eastbound on East Sherman Avenue, towards Lincoln, when she saw a pedestrian, later identified as 42-year-old Frederic Acevedo of Millville, in her lane of travel, but she did not believe her vehicle had struck him as she had swerved away, per police.
Ortiz-Angel temporarily stayed at the scene, but after not seeing the pedestrian on the road, she left the area.
Her Mustang was later located and stopped by police, where damage was reportedly consistent with evidence found at the crash scene.
Ortiz-Angel was not hurt, while Acevedo was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he died from his injuries on Sunday.
Police say they issued citations to Ortiz-Angel for leaving the scene of a collision causing death and failing to report a collision. No criminal charges have been filed, but an investigation continues.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Vineland Police Department at (856) 691-4111. Anonymous tips are welcome.
