Wrong-way Driver on I-80
State Police say just before 12:30 AM, they received a report of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 80 in Knowlton Township, Warren County.
According to authorities, based on a preliminary investigation, 67-year-old Robert Felegi of Middleport, PA, was driving a Nissan pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80.
A responding trooper, who was driving a marked troop car eastbound with its lights and sirens on, attempted to slow down motorists and alert them of the approaching hazard. In the area of milepost 1.4, Felegi collided head-on with the troop car, per officials.
The trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Charges Filed
Felegi was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and assault by auto. He was lodged in the Warren County Jail pending a detention hearing. The case remains under investigation.
Troopers pointed out that this incident occurred during "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" month, a statewide enforcement initiative focused on removing impaired drivers from the state's roadways.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
